Valemount Visitor/Interpretive Centre
The Valemount Visitor/InterpretiveCentre is the perfect first stop for anyone visiting Valemount. Friendly staff provide great local and provincial information, maps, room reservations, and bookings for local activities. The centre also has computer terminals with Internet access and sells a variety of Valemount and Super, Natural BC souvenirs.
The Valemount Visitor/Interpretive Centre is the main viewing site for Mount Pierre Elliott Trudeau, named for a popular Canadian Prime Minister, who dominated Canadian politics from 1960-1980. Trudeau is most well known for preserving national unity and establishing the Charter of Rights and Freedoms within Canada's constitution. The Interpretive Centre provides a variety of displays about Mount Pierre Elliott Trudeau, the Premier Mountain Range, and the Swift Creek Chinook Salmon Run, which is just a short walk from the centre. Other displays change regularly and may include educational information on the local wildlife, history, environment or local art shows. Arts and crafts from local artisans are on display and available for purchase.
Natural history presentations occur at 7:30 pm nightly at the centre throughout July. During the month of August, witness the spectacular Chinook salmon spawning in Swift Creek, just a 2 minute walk from the centre, and learn from an interpreter about their life cycle and journey up the Fraser River to Valemount. The free salmon programs run at 7:00 pm every evening.
