Backcountry Adventure in the Canadian Rockies

Ski, hike or ride through unspoiled backcountry in BC and Alberta along the Great Divide.

Winter

Tucked away on the boundary of Mount Robson Provincial Park, we get the same wonderful powder snow that has made the Cariboo Mountains famous as a skiing destination.  What's more, we get it in "just right" quantities for telemarking.  We have cabins in two locations near Valemount.  Both offer excellent backcountry skiing.  Strong skiers can plan a hut-to-hut excursion between the 2 locations. We recommend Swift Creek Cabins only to advanced skiers while Dave Henry Lodge has terrain suited to all levels of skiing.  NO LIFTS!

Dave Henry Lodge

Located at 6000' elevation this is an ideal location for backcountry skiing, nordic ( telemark ) and alpine touring.  Cradled among subalpine meadows and lakes on the boundary of  Mount Robson Provincial Park near Valemount, the lodge has a sunny exposure and a spectacular view.  Surrounded by magnificent peaks, miles of gentle meadows and alpine basins, guests have an easy time enjoying their stay at the lodge.  The only hard part is getting the group to agree which slopes to ski next!
Upstairs, we can accommodate up to 10 people.  There is a large semi-divided room; one side with two double beds and the other with a long sleeping platform and futon.  All guests bring their own sleeping bags unless prior arrangements are made.  The lodge and sauna are wood-heated.  There is a propane cookstove with oven, and propane lights in the kitchen and dining areas.

Swift Creek Cabins

Recommended for advanced skiers only.

Our location on Swift Creek is about 15 km. north of Dave Henry Lodge and is also excellent for backcountry skiing, nordic ( telemark ) and alpine touring.  In the trees at the bottom of a gentle basin, these cabins are situated so guests can ski open glades to the alpine - lots of big alpine!  For serious skiers, this area provides unlimited terrain, some of it steep and challenging. Groups should have advanced snow evaluation skills or a professional skiing guide.
There are two cabins here - one set up as kitchen and dining room and the other for sleeping. It will accommodate 6 people comfortably. There is wood heat and propane lamps and cookstove.

Summer

Spectacular hiking, alpine wildflowers, crystal-clear mountain lakes and panoramic photo opportunities await at every turn.  We offer fully catered and guided hike trips (min. 4 days, 3 nights) with great home-cooking and every attempt to tailor the package to the interests of your group. Our cabins are wood-heated: the outhouses are not.  Our cozy lodge on the headwaters of  Dave Henry Creek is perfect for the wilderness lover who likes a little comfort.   Leave your cell phone at home and fish for rainbow trout or photograph flowers.  This is the kind of place the whole family will enjoy.   A long day hike will take you from Dave Henry Lodge to the headwaters of Swift Creek and our cabins there.  Hiking around Swift Creek Cabins is excellent.
